some changes

So most of you know that I was doing AmeriCorps through the Northwest Leadership Foundation (NLF), and I started in Septembe. I had signed up to be a part of the ProTeen team, working with a program called Street Behaviors. Unfortunately, the school district has not funded the program for the current school year, so I have kind of been in limbo for the past 5 months. It has been a frustrating and emotional experience, and hadn't been doing anything really that I could call "service". It was so awesome to get to be around NLF and get to know so many awesome people that are committed to making a real difference in Tacoma. It took me awhile, but about a month ago I made the difficult decision to leave AmeriCorps/NLF. My last day was a few weeks ago, and although I am no longer there, I still treasure the friendships and connections I made there.

After I decided to leave, I felt a real peace with my decision. However, my second thought was, "okay, I have to get a job!" I emailed my old boss at Camp Berachah, where I worked for a few summers, and asked her if they were hiring. She told me that they had a hiring freeze until March because of finances. Then about a week later, I got an email from her and she said that YES, they are hiring for a part-time instructor. My good friend Dawn is leaving her instructor position at the end of February, so they needed someone to take her lessons. So, as of March 1st I am going to be teaching riding lessons! I am SOO excited! This is what I love to do! Although it has nothing to do really with my grad school program (yes, I am staying in school), it is where God has called me at the moment. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity.

Thanks for being so supportive in this journey. And happy Friday the 13th! :-)

Yay Jess! Congrats on the job, and it's something you will love, and you won't have to sit in an office and twiddle your thumbs all day. Glad things are going so well! Love ya!
